Audubon of Florida Eagle Cam at Tesoro

They say the third time's the charm.  It certainly seems to be the case for a pair of nesting eagles at Tesoro®.  In the third year of Ginn Resorts' partnership with Audubon of Florida, which included placing a camera in a tree next to the eagles nest, the eagle pair successfully produced offspring.

And their relationship with their new eaglets is being captured on Tesoro's Eagle Cam and broadcast to the world.

The Eagle Cam at Tesoro was born from a partnership formed between Ginn Resorts and Audubon of Florida following the discovery, three years ago, that eagles had relocated their nest from a protected location at Tesoro to a spot only hundreds of feet from the construction site of what is now Tesoro's Clubhouse.

Upon learning of the situation, Bobby Ginn ordered all construction to stop, and he immediately notified the appropriate authorities.

In the end, he redesigned the entire community around the eagles nest, at a cost of millions in lost homesite revenue.  According to Bobby, it was worth it to ensure that our nation's symbol of patriotism would be able to raise their young in a safe and protected environment.

But getting here wasn't easy.  Hurricane Wilma wiped out the pair's nest the first year.  And in year two, the female laid eggs that did not hatch.  2008, however, proved successful, and the two most well-known Tesoro residents became proud parents in mid-January.

Lynda White, eagle watch coordinator for Audubon of Florida, says that people from around the world are following the Eagle Cam, including a fourth and fifth grade class from Wellington, England.  The students have named the adult eagles George and Martha.
